Ever since I could hold a pencil, my life has pretty much revolved around art. It consumes me and allows me to create something in which words could never begin to express. I am constantly finding myself absorbed in my art. Art allows me to escape from reality for a bit, which is something I feel we all need now and again. Becoming engrossed in my art has given me the opportunity to explore new techniques and styles, and to become inspired by classic and modern artists and different cultures around the world. I’ve begun to combine old artists or cultures with styles that are newer to me.
In the past, I really only sketched or painted, because that’s what I was comfortable with. Through art classes in school, I’ve began working with new media, which I’ve really enjoyed. By using these new materials and techniques, I’ve discovered that there’s so much more to art than just painting and drawing. I’ve been able to step out of my comfort zone and work on some pieces that have a deeper meaning to them. I’ve begun creating pieces that are influenced my personal feelings and the world I see. The art classes I’ve taken have caused me to take a step back and consider all of the processes that go into each piece. I can look at all the individual parts, and the piece as a whole.
Although I take pride in my work, I’m rarely entirely satisfied with it. I can always seem to find something I’d like to change or improve. To me, art is all about pushing yourself and stepping away from what you’re used to and trying something new, and that’s what I want to continue to do in life.
